Conservative & Endodontics

The students are trained to have complete knowledge of aetiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of dental carries, trauma, restorative and endodontic procedures. Students use advanced materials like composites, glass ionomers, varnishes and sealants, dentin bonding and light cure systems.
The department trains the students in endodontic procedures using advanced technologies like apex locators, radiovisiography and latest root canal obturation methods. Preclinical training comprising of simulated working on phantom heads is given to instill confidence for perfect restorative and endodontic procedures.

Orthodontics

The department trains students in immaculate history taking, methodological examination of patient, performing diagnostic procedures and management of dentofacial deformities. Students fabricate orthodontic appliances by conducting intricate wire bending procedures. The department imparts orthodontic treatment to a large percentage of the local population and the students of SDCH by the latest fixed orthodontic techniques including McLauglin, Benett & Traversy technique. The department caters to cleft lip and palate rehabilitation by multi-disciplinary approach. Orthognathic surgeries, distraction osteogenesis, implants and lingual orthodontics are some of the special interests of the department. The department regularly conducts extensive hands-on courses & continuing dental education programmes pertaining to the latest in the speciality.

Pedodontics

Pediatric Dentistry is an age-defined speciality that provides comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special healthcare needs. Students are trained in aspects of child psychology, behaviour management, preventive dentistry, interceptive orthodontics, management of decayed teeth and traumatic injuries. They are trained in radiology pertaining to children, dental health education and school dental health programmes.

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Students are trained for extraction of teeth, local anaesthesia techniques, basic emergency training, management of medically compromised patients and complications that can occur during surgical procedures in the dental clinic. They are also trained to perform other minor oral surgical procedures under supervision, and are given a basic idea of different major oral and maxillofacial procedures. Emphasis is laid down on achieving sterile and aseptic conditions using state of the art and most advanced sterilization techniques.

Community Dentistry

The department disseminates knowledge and concept of health, emphasizing on public health problems, preventive dentistry, nutrition and environmental aspects related to dental health. It highlights on research methodology, biostatistics and health informatics. The student is trained to conduct community dental health programmes, school based dental health education and preventive methods. The department extends clinical care to nearby rural areas, with established satellite clinics in various villages adopted by the Institute.

Pathology & Microbiology

Pathology is a bridging discipline involving both basic science and clinical practice and is devoted to the study of the structural and functional changes in cells, tissues and organs that underlie the disease. The department is well equipped with various molecular, microbiologic, immunologic and morphologic techniques to explain, why and wherefores of the signs and symptoms manifested by the patient, thus providing a sound foundation for rational clinical care and therapy.

Pharmacology

Pharmacology is a science that deals with assimilation, absorption, metabolism and excretion of drugs. The department imparts practical and clinical knowledge to students for choosing and use of drugs in order to achieve improved therapeutics. The department also undertakes various animal studies that can be extrapolated in the clinical settings helping in advancement of medical therapeutics.

Prosthodontics

The prosthodontic graduate training programme imparts knowledge pertaining to restoration and maintenance of oral function, health, comfort and appearance by the replacement of missing and lost natural teeth. Students are trained on complete dentures, cast partial dentures, crown and bridge work, implant supported prosthesis through didactic and clinical learning. They undergo extensive training using state-of-the-art modern equipment and materials of international standards to enhance their preclinical skills. They also get trained in casting and ceramic work in the Ceramo Metal Laboratory.

Periodontics

Periodontics encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth. Students are trained in case analysis, treatment planning, maintenance, supportive and surgical periodontal therapy. Knowledge on techniques of muco-gingival surgeries, resective and reconstructive osseous surgeries and implantology is imparted to the students.

Oral Medicine & Radiology

"Mouth is the mirror of the body"; most diseases reflect in the oral cavity with various presentations. This department sits at the interface between dentistry and medicine and trains the novice dental student about oral healthcare of patients with chronic, recurrent and medically related disorders of the oral and maxillofacial region with their diagnosis and non-surgical management. Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology is the speciality of dentistry and discipline of radiology concerned with the production and interpretation of images and data produced by all modalities of radiant energy that are used for the diagnosis and management of diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral and maxillofacial region.

Anatomy

Thorough knowledge of General Human Anatomy is inculcated in students with special emphasis on head and neck by means of cadaver dissection and detailed study of hard and soft tissues of the human body. The department boasts of an excellent museum with life sized models and charts.

Oral Pathology

Oral pathology is the discipline of pathology that deals with the nature, identification and management of diseases affecting the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial regions. The department trains students to perform routine histopathological evaluations along with haematological, cytological, microbiological, immunological and ultra structural investigations. The student is trained in the science of histology and pathology of oral and maxillofacial region utilizing state-of-the-art digital microscopy and LCD projection system.

Physiology & Biochemistry

Physiology is concerned with specific characteristics and mechanisms of human body that makes it a living being. The department trains the student with a goal to explain the physical and chemical factors that are responsible for the origin, development and progression of life.
Biochemistry provides a sound knowledge of various biochemical reactions relevant to human system for life sustenance. The department has ample infrastructure and advanced equipment like colorimeter, pH meter, centrifuge machines, magnetic stirrer with hot plate, hot air oven, serological thermostat water bath, incubators, electronic balances, water distillation units, etc. Various biochemical tests performed on blood and urine samples, collected from healthy and diseased individuals make the student understand how it contributes in diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of disease.treatment of disease.

General Surgery

In general surgery students are familiarized with principles of general surgery and common general surgical procedures. Evaluation of patients for general anaesthetic techniques and management of emergencies along with intravenous sedation is taught.


Seema Dental College is attached with 150 bedded General Government Hospital for giving live demo on patients to BDS students studying general surgery.
